Sustainable concrete development using recycled materials
Research in sustainable construction materials focuses on the development of various concrete types with a reduced environmental impact through the use of recycled and secondary raw materials in structural applications. Particular attention is given to fiber-reinforced concrete, where different types of fibers are employed to enhance mechanical performance, durability, and long-term behavior in standard, high-strength, and recycled-aggregate concretes. Research objectives • Use of various fiber types, including recycled steel fibers, industrially produced steel fibers, and hybrid fiber systems. • Improvement of concrete mechanical properties, especially strength, resistance to crack initiation and propagation, and reduction of shrinkage. • Assessment of concrete durability, including water absorption, carbonation, and long-term structural performance. • Application of fiber-reinforced concrete in mixes with recycled aggregates to reduce the consumption of primary raw materials. • Design of more efficient and slender concrete structures, such as pavements, while maintaining the required service life.
